Niall Meagher

Event Chairman

Niall has sailed in the flying fifteen fleet since 1996, first participating in a world Championship (with his ever forgiving crew and partner Nicki) in the 50th anniversary event in Cowes ; since then Niall has taken on the role of Class Captain of the Dunlaoghaire Fleet (1999) and President of the Flying Fifteen Association of Ireland (2000-02). Together with the hardworking Committee Niall is looking forward to a fantastic event in Dublin in September 2019.

Ronan Beirne - Commodore, National Yacht Club

Organising Committee Member

Ronan has been crewing a flying fifteen since 2002 with David Mulvin and sailed in pre-World Championships hosted by the National Yacht Club in 2003 during which Ronan was on the organization committee. In addition to regular flying fifteen fleet racing in the Bay and Irish regional events, Ronan & helm David have travelled to the Europeans at Kinsale Yacht Club 2008, British Championships at South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club, Abersoch 2009, Worlds Hayling Island Sailing Club 2011 and British Championships at Royal Northern Clyde Y.C. 2015, the same year Ronan was Dun Laoghaire flying fifteen Class Captain.

Susan Spain - Rear-Commodore, National Yacht Club

Coordination Event Organising Commitee & Club

Rear Commodore National Yacht Club. Particularly involved in developing Ladies and Junior Sailing. 

Martin McCarthy - Vice-Commodore, National Yacht Club

Event Marketing & Publicity

Martin McCarthy is a Chartered Engineer and former F15 sailor. He was involved in organizing the 1992 and 2003 World Championships at National Yacht Club. He is a motoring journalist.

Alan Green

Sailing Organisation

Many of you will know Alan from his exploits crewing with Charles Apthorp in British and Irish events of the last few year. Alan is currently the Flying Fifteen International representative here in Ireland and continues to be an active member of the Dun Laoghaire fleet

Chris Doorly - NYC Committee Member

Event Programme & Social

Chris is a long standing active member of the Dun Laoghaire fleet and is the current President of the Flying Fifteen Association of Ireland. Many of you will know him from attending numerous World Championships including Cowes, Dublin, New Zealand, Mallorca and most recently in France

Ian Mathews


Ian has been a member of the National Yacht Club for over 30 years and currently sails in the fast growing Dun Laoghaire Flying Fifteen Fleet. He started sailing fifteens in 1995 and has competed in the Worlds and Europeans Championships. Ian was the Irish National Champion in 2013 and has won a number of Irish regional championships. He was Dun Laoghaire FF Fleet Captain in 2000 and is currently responsible for the fleet sponsorship coordination having secured support over the years from Mitsubishi Motors, KIA Motors and Ericsson. Before sailing fifteens, Ian competed in numerous ISORA and RORC races including 3 Round Ireland races. Ian was Dublin Bay Sailing Club Treasurer from 2010 to 2016 and is currently a member of the NYC Finance Sub-Committee. During the winter, Ian enjoys racing his RC Laser against fellow NYC members.

Keith Poole


Keith Poole was Past President FFAI and has been sailing Flying Fifteens for over 20 years and won National Championship in 2013.

David Mulvin

Scrutineer Management

David is a Flying Fifteen sailor since 2003 and sails with our commodore Ronan Beirne. They competed in the pre-World Championships held in Dun Laoghaire in 2003, They sailed in the Worlds in Hayling Island. They have sailed in the FF15 Europeans Championships in Kinsale and Majorca, and the British Nationals in Abersoch, Largs and The Clyde.

David was Dun Laoghaire Flying Fifteen Class Captain in 2013.

As Scrutineer David will have a full team for measurement, weighing and daily scrutinising.

Peter Sherry - NYC Honorary Secretary

Commitee Support

Peter, a Flying Fifteen sailor since 2001, competed in the FF 15 World Championships held in Dun Laoghaire in 2003 and the FF15 Europeans Championships in Kinsale in 2008 and was Dun Laoghaire Flying Fifteen Class Captain in 2009.  Peter is acting as Liaison between the event organising committee and the General Committee of the National Yacht Club

Tim O'Brien

General Manager

Tim leads the Clubhouse team in the Bar & Catering and Admin sections of the Club and is directly in charge of all catering, social & entertainment aspects of the event

Olivier Prouveur

Sailing Manager

Olivier leads the Boathouse team of the Club and all the volunteers involved in the ON and OFF the water logistical aspects of the event.

Olivier is also the IT Manager / Webmaster for www.flying15worlds2019.com
